Sacred Valley, Peru

The Spring 2020 Living in the Light Retreat will be held from March 16-20, 2020 in majestic Sacred Valley, Peru during the Spring Equinox (March 19, 2020). There will be an optional trip extension from 3/20-22 to join us for a cultural tour of Cusco and the ancient Incan ruins of Machu Picchu and more.

We’ll be spending our time rejuvenating, nourishing, and awakening ourselves to our greatest potential. Under the loving facilitation of Kandace Jones, the group will be guided in meditation, sound healing, nature walks, deep breathing exercises, transformative journaling practices, and more! See below for more information on how you can secure your space for this magical journey.

Where will we stay?

We’ll be staying at the beautiful Willka T’ika retreat center. Willka T’ika was designed with the intention of paying homage to local values of the Quechua people and ancient Incan traditions. Traditionally, the Quechua ancestral belief is to honor Pachamama (Mother Earth) while embracing reciprocal exchange, Ayni, which is the principle of sustainable giving and receiving. Located in one of the most stunning places on earth, the beauty of Pachamama radiates throughout Willka T’ika’s grounds. From the hand-crafted guestroom design, to the breathtaking Chakra Gardens, organic vegetarian farm-to-table meals, Andean ceremonial spaces and devoted service by the local Quechuan staff, Willka T’ika is a model of authentic sustainability. Notably, Willka T’ika is also home to the “Seven Chakra Gardens.” Each garden contains symbols, shapes, sculptures, and Incan medicinal plants and flowers that resonate with one of the seven chakras, or energy centers, of the human body. The crown jewel is a 1000-year-old Lucuma tree that connects guests to the nature-based wisdom of pre-Incan civilization. It is a magical place!

What will our days look like?

Your loving facilitator, Kandace Jones, will guide you in morning meditation, sound healing energy clearing exercises, and inspiration. You will have a nourishing vegetarian breakfast prepared by a local chef and then have some time to prepare for the day. We’ll begin our on-site activity/workshop or head out on an excursion that supports your wellness journey. We won’t just be rushing from place to place – we’ll have time to pause, meditate, reflect, write, and more. When we return to Willka T’ika, you’ll have additional time to yourselves to read, relax, write, connect with Kandace 1:1, receive a massage treatment, enjoy the Chakra gardens, hike, or whatever else your heart calls you to do. A beautiful vegetarian 3-course dinner will be served at Willka T’ika each evening.

Monday, March 16

You’ll have some time to get settled in, relax, and explore the grounds before your welcome dinner and orientation with Kandace at 7:00 p.m. Take a deep breath, your journey begins here.

Tuesday, March 17

We’ll begin the day with a meditation session, in which Kandace will share a few practices that you can begin incorporating into your life to calm the mind and release stress. We’ll close out our morning meditation practice with a sound bath, guiding you into deep relaxation to allow for the healing frequencies to support the release of old energy to make room for the new. Even if you’ve been meditating for years, this morning session will bring you back to beginner’s mind, centering you for the journey ahead. We’ll have breakfast, and then some time for integration and guided reflection. Later, we’ll transition to our restorative yoga practice. It will be a powerful time of releasing all that no longer serves, so we can step boldly into the new. You’ll have some time for relaxation and exploration in the afternoon before the group reconnects for dinner and evening contemplation.

Wednesday, March 18

After morning meditation, breath practice, and sound healing facilitated by Kandace, the group will have breakfast and prepare for a powerful day of high frequency activations for stepping into your highest expression. We will be journeying to two gems of the Sacred Valley, Moray and Salinas de Maras for the day, where we will spend time in meditation and reflection on the power of God within and surrounding us.

At Salinas de Maras salt mines, as we witness the majestic crystal salt formations, Kandace will guide the group through a series of high-frequency Light Language transmissions to support the activation of the crystalline body (aka “Light body”). This will support all who are ready to receive it in navigating the human experience with greater remembrance of, and palpable connection to, the Soul.

Salinas de Maras is one of only four places in the world where authentic locally-harvested pink salt can be purchased. Looking out at the landscape will metaphorically remind us to be the “Salt of the Earth.”

We will continue our journey to mystical Moray, an ancient Incan site with concentric circles that run 500 feet deep. Here, we’ll have the opportunity to release all that we’ve held in the depths of our subconscious that no longer serves us and to visualize all that we invite into the circle of our lives.

Thursday, March 19

Happy Spring Equinox! (Officially 10:49 p.m. on 3/19/20) After morning meditation, breath practice, and sound healing facilitated by Kandace, the group will have breakfast followed by a break to prepare for our group outing. After some reflection time, we will journey to the ancient Pisac ruins where we will hike, meditate, journal, and reflect on our time together. We’ll also have a chance to purchase local goods in town if desired. Upon our return, we will come together for relaxing yoga class to stretch our bodies post-hike. We’ll have some time for relaxation between yoga and dinner to reflect on the journey and enjoy the amenities of the property (chakra gardens, spa treatments, meditation spaces, hiking, art classes, etc). In the evening, we’ll hold a closing group session for discussion, Q&A and sharing of actionable tips for integrating wellness practices into your daily life. We’ll close the evening with our final dinner by Willka T’ika’s vegetarian chef, bonfire, and sound healing session.

Friday, March 20

We’ll open the day with meditation, breath practice, and sound healing, facilitated by Kandace. This practice will be followed by a closing circle to anchor in all that has been activated throughout our time together. We’ll depart on our shuttle to Cusco and either begin the journey home or continue on to the 2-day extension trip to the explore the city of Cusco and the ancient Incan sites of Machu Picchu and Saksaywaman. We’ll be bringing home the peace, joy, liberation, and more, that has been activated throughout our time together.

What will we eat?

To support our cleansing, organic gourmet vegetarian and vegan meals will be served throughout our trip. The cuisine at Willka T’ika is an exotic fusion of Andean, American, South Asian and African flavors. Willka T’ika has the only 100% hormone-free and chemical-free gourmet vegetarian hotel kitchen in Peru’s Sacred Valley. The gardens are strictly organic. Three gourmet vegetarian meals are served daily, using high-protein Andean grains and legumes, as well as organic, freshly harvested vegetables and salads grown on-site. Willka T’ika also serves their own free-range eggs. Vegan, gluten free, and special dietary requests can be accommodated. Non-vegetarians find the cuisine at Willka T’ika flavorsome, original and delicious.

Start the day with a cup of freshly harvested herbal tea or fresh roasted Quillabamba coffee grown on staff family farms. The buffet breakfast may include homemade muesli using kiwicha and other Andean grains, breads from a local oven, omelets, and sliced fruits and avocados from the subtropical Machu Picchu area. Dinner may include a hearty soup, freshly harvested salad and gourmet vegetarian entrees with steamed vegetables. Meals include quinoa and kiwicha, the grain that gave Inkan warriors strength, or tarwi, an Andean legume containing more protein than red meat.

Dinner on the evening of arrival (Monday 3/16), all meals for Tuesday – Thursday (all meals on Friday and Saturday for those participating in the 2-day extension trip), and breakfast on the day of departure are included. Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions, and we’ll be sure to inform the chef.

What will the weather be like?

The daily highs in March average 68 degrees, with nighttime lows in the 50s. Plan to wear layers for adjusting temperatures, a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, sneakers, hiking boots, a refillable water bottle, and a bathing suit in case you’d like to experience the solar bath treatments offered at Willka T’ika (see spa offerings below).

What else should I bring?

The following items are recommended for all Living in the Light Retreats: a flashlight, a journal for reflection, a watch (as we will be turning off our electronic devices for some portions of our time together), a blanket (we will be sitting on the grass together at times as well as laying down on the floor for our sound bath sessions), a purple pen (the significance of this will be explained in the welcome session). It is also suggested that each participant bring warm pajamas for the chilly Andean nights and slip on shoes for easy access to the yoga studio and meeting room where we’ll be removing our shoes.

Note: There are plenty of yoga mats at the property, so there is no need to travel with your own. You may wish to bring your personal yoga towel to put on top of the mats provided if that is your preference.

Are spa treatments available at Willka T’ika?

Willka T’ika offers a range of therapeutic, Andean style spa treatments to restore the body and rejuvenate the spirit including massage, reflexology, facials, and two unique Willka T’ika experiences:

Andean Solar Baths –Experience an outdoor floral bath under a velvet night sky bejeweled with the Milky Way.The unique solar baths, carved from stone and set in secluded garden spots, are heated and energized by the sun during the day. At night the water is infused with flowers, medicinal herbs and organic salts from the local salt mines of Maras. Enjoy a luxurious soak under the stars before bed. ($50/person/bath)

Crystal Light Therapy – Crystal light therapy combines color, light, quartz crystals and music to clear and realign the body’s chakras. This gentle half-hour treatment encourages healing of the body and mind and leaves you feeling revitalized and refreshed. Follow the session with a cup of fresh herbal tea and quietly sit in one of the chakra gardens to maximize and integrate the healing experience. ($30 for ½ hour; White or light-colored clothing required)

What is the altitude at Willka T’ika? What can I do to avoid altitude sickness?

The altitude in the Sacred Valley is 9,400 feet above sea level. You will receive detailed tips on how to prepare your body for high altitudes and how to avoid altitude sickness in retreat preparation guidance from Kandace. For those joining us for the 2-day extension trip, Machu Picchu’s elevation is 7,972 and Cusco’s is 11,152 feet. Kandace will also be extending her trip for an additional day to hike to Humantay Lake, which is at 13,779 feet. All who are interested are welcome to join (It is a two-hour hike to the lake, but well worth it as you can see from the photo below…Yes! This is a real place! Gorgeous, right?).

What is included in the price?

The retreat price includes 4 nights single or double accommodations (6 nights for those doing the 2-day extension trip), ground transportation to/from Cusco, meals as specified above, daily meditation and stress-release practice sessions, group energy healing sessions, all activities, guided hikes, entrance fees, and a signed copy of Kandace’s book, From Stress to Peace: An Intimate Journal on the Journey from Living in Darkness to Living in the Light. It is recommended that you read this prior to arriving in Peru, so it will be mailed to you prior to the trip. Already have the book? Feel free to gift it to a friend or loved one.

What is NOT included in the price?

Airfare to Peru, flight from Lima to Cusco, tips, travel insurance, and personal expenses (gifts, incidentals, spa treatments) are not included in the retreat price. A group shuttle will be provided from Cusco, Peru. If you’re flying into Lima, you will need to take a short (1 hour) flight from Lima to Cusco. Getting to Cusco will be your responsibility, as the retreat ground transportation begins in Cusco. These short flights range in price from $40-100. Please hold off on booking flights until receiving further instructions after reserving your space regarding the shuttle departure times to/from Cusco on 3/16 and 3/20.

Are there ways we can give back to the local community?

Absolutely! It is a priority for Living in the Light Retreats to not only receive from the beautiful locations we visit, but to pour Love back into the local community. We are asking all retreat participants to bring items in support of The Willka T’ika Children’s Fund (WTCF). WTCF is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that supports isolated Andean schools and assists Quechua youth and families with emergency situations and education needs. Items needed include supplies for schools, children’s books in Spanish, art supplies and sturdy second-hand clothing. In addition, Willka T’ika has a small store with unique gifts, high quality silver, and hand-woven cloths made by community parents. All store proceeds support the WTCF.

Meet Kandace

IMG_3113

I used to live life shackled by fear, doubt, and worry. I put on a happy face while navigating my day-to-day duties, but I was emotionally drained, stressed, and unhappy. When I hit rock bottom, and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, I was determined to live life differently. I knew there had to be another way. Out of that determination, and the immense joy that came from finding peace within, “Living in the Light” was born.

It is my greatest joy to support others on the journey to inner peace. My spiritual memoir, From Stress to Peace: An Intimate Journal on the Journey from Living in Darkness to Living in the Light has inspired many to connect with the peace that lies within.

As a spiritual life coach, meditation teacher, energy healer, sound therapist, and passionate advocate for wellness, I share tools for relaxation, meditation, stress-release, and more through the Living in the Light blog, Living in the Light Retreats, 1:1 coaching1:1 energy healing sessions, and the Living in the Light Community – all of which are designed to support your journey to resting in the stillness within, regardless of what is occurring.

I love to travel and have had the pleasure of spending time in ~38 countries. I bring this passion for authentic travel experiences to my work as a retreat facilitator. I have hosted retreats in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Sedona, New Mexico, and the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina (see photos on the Past Retreats page). Upcoming retreats and spiritual pilgrimages will include, but not be limited to: Hawaii, Mount Shasta, Egypt, Ethiopia, Israel, Peru, Bali, and more. (Sign up below to be among the first to learn about upcoming retreats)

I appreciate you taking the time to visit Living in the Light Retreats and look forward to retreating with you in the near future! Keep shining!
